At what age should a child commence music lessons? We generally recommend that a child be at least 7 years old before commencing tuition however some teachers are prepared to take younger children if they feel that the individual child could cope with the demands of music lessons. As an adult who has never had any musical training, am I too old to learn? You are never too old to learn and enjoy music. Adult students are very welcome. No previous experience is required and it is often possible for lessons to be arranged during the day to accommodate work or family commitments. How many lessons should I have per week and how do I pay my fees? We recommend that students have one half hour lesson per week though more advanced students may require longer. Fees are paid directly to the teacher generally at each lesson as it is felt that the majority of students find this is more convenient. What is the procedure should I wish to cancel my lesson? Your teacher should be contacted as soon as possible if a lesson is to be cancelled. The teacher will endeavour, whenever possible, to arrange an alternative lesson time. Does Cleveland School of Music provide tuition for disabled students and those with special needs? Wherever possible teachers included on our directory will do their utmost to enrich everyone’s life with music and we are totally committed to offering tuition to those with special needs. Occasionally such requests may be beyond the resources of the school and for this reason we ask that you discuss such circumstances prior to booking tuition Do Teachers take the same holidays as state schools? Generally not. Teachers make their own individual arrangements for holidays. What happens if I wish to discontinue lessons? Should you wish to discontinue lessons, your teacher should be informed as soon as possible in case a notice period is required What is the procedure for examinations? When the student has attained the level required for examination by a specific Board, the teacher will suggest studying the required material for examination and will enter the student at the appropriate time. The only added cost to the student will be the purchase of the required examination music and the examination fee. What if I do not want to take examinations? This is perfectly acceptable. Many students wish to play for pleasure. A course of study is followed in which there is no obligation for the student to sit any examination. |
